Getting Started

This guide walks you through merging your first folder of PDFs using Batch Merge PDFs.

1. Install the app

Download and install Batch Merge PDFs from the Microsoft Store. Once installed, launch it from the Start menu.

2. Select your PDF folder

Click Browse next to PDF folder and select the folder containing the PDFs you want to merge.

The app scans the folder and shows how many PDF files were found. Only files directly inside the selected folder are included — subfolders are not scanned.

3. Choose an output folder

The output folder is where the merged PDF file will be saved. It defaults to Documents\BatchMergePDFs.

Click Browse to choose a different location.

The output filename is set automatically to match your input folder name. For example, if your folder is called MyBook, the output will be MyBook.pdf.

4. Set options

  • Skip if output already exists — if checked, the app will skip the merge when the output file is already present in the output folder. Useful for rerunning without overwriting completed work.
  • Add page numbers to merged PDF — if checked, the app stamps fresh “Page N of Total” numbers across the bottom of every page in the merged file. Leave it off if your source PDFs already have their own page numbers, to avoid double-numbering.

5. Merge

Click Merge PDFs. A progress bar shows each file being loaded. When done, click Open folder to see the output.

Controlling merge order

Files merge in alphabetical filename order. To control the sequence, name your files accordingly:

00_cover.pdf
01_introduction.pdf
02_chapter1.pdf
03_chapter2.pdf
99_back-matter.pdf

This gives you full control without any special app configuration. See Merge Order for more detail.
