Getting Started

This guide walks through setting up Background Music Generator with any AI and creating your first track.

1. Add a Music API Profile

Click the key icon in the header. A Music API Profile keeps the connection details for one provider and model together.

  1. Choose a provider.
  2. Give the profile a clear name, such as OpenRouter music.
  3. Confirm or enter the Base URL and Model.
  4. Paste your API key.
  5. Click Test connection.
  6. Click Save key when the connection works.

You can save multiple named profiles and choose the active one from the same window. API keys are encrypted for your Windows account and sent only to the provider you select.

2. Choose a music persona

On 1. Brief, choose a persona. A persona is the reusable musical direction for your work; it is not a second prompt to fill in every time.

The profile preview shows its direction, what it is good for, and your personal note. Click Edit to change a starter persona or create your own.

3. Write your brief

Give the track a name, then describe the music in plain language. For example:

Warm ambient electronic music for a calm productivity video.

The active persona supplies reusable direction; the brief supplies the purpose of this particular track.

4. Set output details

Click Continue to open 2. Output. Choose a template, then tune the duration, mood, genre, tempo, instruments, loop setting, format, and output folder.

Templates are a quick starting point for a use case such as Product Demo or Podcast Intro. Selecting one fills the Output controls with its defaults. After that, the values visible in Output are used for this track. Choose a quick instrument combination or Choose instruments to build your own selection.

5. Generate and listen

Click Generate background music. BMG keeps the player visible, so when the request finishes you can listen immediately in the app.

Use Show in folder to reveal the saved file. If a request fails, open the Activity Log in the header for the exact provider or connection message.
