Passwords and permissions

Batch Protect PDFs is a local PDF protection utility. It creates protected copies of selected PDFs and leaves source files unchanged.

Open password

An open password is optional. When set, a compatible PDF viewer asks for this password before showing the protected document.

Leaving the open password empty allows the PDF to open without a password while still applying owner-password protection and permissions.

Owner password

The owner password is required. It protects the document’s security settings and permission policies. Keep it somewhere secure if you may need to change the file later.

The app can generate a strong owner password for you. Passwords are used for the active workflow only and are not written to preferences or logs.

Permission policies

Permission flags tell compatible PDF viewers whether printing, copying, editing, annotations, form filling, page assembly, or accessibility extraction should be allowed.

These permissions are not DRM. They are policy hints enforced by viewers that choose to honor them.

Metadata encryption

Metadata encryption controls whether document metadata is encrypted with the rest of the PDF. Enable it when the file title, author, subject, keywords, or other metadata should not remain visible without authorization.

Verification

Before promoting an output, the app reopens the protected PDF with the intended credentials and checks that a wrong password is rejected. Files that fail validation are reported and not promoted as successful outputs.
